Culver City is mostly surrounded by the city of Los Angeles, including Playa Vista, but also has a border with unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
Since the 1920s, Culver City has been a significant center for motion picture and later television production, in part because it was the home of MGM Studios. It also was the headquarters for the Hughes Aircraft Company from the 1930s to the 1980s. National Public Radio West and Sony Pictures Entertainment now have headquarters in the city.
In the last five years Culver City has seen huge transformations of its downtown district, Washington Boulevard between Overland Avenue and Venice Boulevard. Culver City was one of the first cities in the country to offer high speed wireless access in its whole downtown area. In addition to this the city has also made numerous improvements to infrastructure around downtown and the city as a whole. This has led it to be a very well respected community just east of the beach areas of Venice and Marina Del Rey. Culver City continues to offer affordable homes for the first time home buyer, and is arguably one of the best neighborhoods for getting the most bang for your buck. Washington Boulevard is lined with great restaurants, and a beautiful mix of historic buildings and modern ones alike that have attracted numerous nationally recognized stores and restaurants. The “downtown” area also has a vibrant nightlife with many people walking the streets and dining at outdoor cafes.
Culver City still has room to grow as its outer boundary to the east is Fairfax Avenue. Many people do not associate this area with Culver City as Fairfax is generally seen as part of Los Angeles. The city has begun to make improvements to the streets in this area as well and the difference is starting to be seen in the neighborhood as homeowners are making improvements and new tenants are beginning to move into the commercial area.
For years Culver City had flown under the radar of most in Los Angeles, but only now is gaining notoriety. This has led to recent property price increases and a surge of people wanting to live there.

Real Estate in Culver City simply put is one of the best values in the Los Angeles area. Culver City has invested a great deal in new infrastructure and beautification and continues to do so. The “downtown” area has many great restaurants, wine bars, a movie theater, and many night-time hangouts. The average home price in Culver City for the month ending March 2007, was only $753,000. Compared to other nearby areas and taking into consideration all that Culver City has to offer, this is truly one of the best values in Los Angeles. It shouldn’t be long before everyone catches wind of the area and the median home price approaches $1,000,000.
Culver City has a large variety of real estate available for buyers looking to call it home. The “Culver Crest” area, offers many beautiful homes for sale with unbelievable views of the city. This area is located just east of Overland Avenue south of Jefferson.
The “Sunkist Park” area has many affordable traditional single family homes on quiet tree lined streets. Homes in this area will greatly benefit from the Playa Vista development which is scheduled to begin construction in early 2007. The development is located just minutes away to the west, and this pocket of homes will be one of the closest to all the amenities it will offer.
The most popular area of Culver City is the area known as “Studio Village”, which is located just to the south of the “downtown” area on Washington Boulevard. This area has many wide tree lined streets which are just a short walk from all the activity in downtown. This area has a wide range of homes from traditional single family, large modern Mediterranean, and even multi-family properties consisting of duplexes up to 4 units. Real estate prices in this area are slightly higher than in other parts of the city but are still very affordable in terms of what the location has to offer.
Overall, Culver City is a city which has made many improvements in infrastructure and generally beautifying the city. It also offers wonderful weather year round, often avoiding the “June gloom” (overcast days often found in other nearby cities) which haunts other cities such as Santa Monica in early summer. The city also has a solid job base with many studios calling it home and traditional offices to the south. All of these things are what make up Culver City and continue to bring new residents as they uncover this Westside gem.
